The workers were identified as Rabi Murmu (21) and Gauranga Gauniya (23). They were moving a wharf top fortification cage with the assistance of a crane, and the mild rainfall exacerbated the situation. The workers were appointed by civil works labour contract. The work site is a part of Namma Metro’s eastern augmentation from Baiyappanahalli to Whitefield under Phase 2.

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) stated “While moving the wharf top cage, the blast of the crane turned out to be electrically instigated, as the crane went through an overhead high-strain line (11kV). The metal confine turned out to be electrically charged and the two laborers, who were holding the cage, got an electric stock,”

Murmu breathed his last bucket while Gauniya is under treatment at a private hospital and is said to be out of danger. The site engineer and the supervisor have been accused for causing death because of negligence.
