World Music Day started in 1982 in France as ‘Fete de la Musique’, a music festival. The man behind it was the then French Minister of Culture Jack Lang. It became so popular that it spread worldwide and people in every country celebrate music in their own unique way.
The day honours the contribution of professionals and amateurs to the music industry. The first Fete de la Musique was held on the streets of Paris and became a huge success within a few years.
The day is usually celebrated by musicians coming out to play their instruments on the streets, parks, stadiums, and theatres. However, this year amid Covid-19 pandemic, World Music Day is likely to be celebrated mostly indoors
