After a dry spell lasting 162 days, Bengaluru finally witnessed rainfall on Friday, bringing relief from the scorching heat that had persisted for over a month. Parts of the city experienced summer showers and thunderstorms, offering a much-needed respite to the residents.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) scientist CS Patil, Bengaluru is expected to continue experiencing widespread light to moderate rain along with occasional thunderstorms over the next four days. This forecast has brought hope to the city, which had been grappling with extreme temperatures exceeding 38 degrees Celsius.

IMD scientists had predicted the development of breezes over the south interior Karnataka districts, indicating a shift in weather patterns.

The recent change in weather, marked by clouds forming in the evening, led to the sudden onset of rainfall.

Bengaluru had been facing an unprecedented dry spell, with no rainfall recorded in April since 1983. The last week of April saw minimal rain, which was too insignificant to be measured by the IMD. This prolonged absence of rainfall had raised concerns about the continuation of high temperatures into May.

However, the recent showers have brought relief to the city’s residents, lowering the mercury levels and offering a break from the intense heat. The forecasted thunderstorms over the next few days are expected to further decrease temperatures by a few degrees, providing some much-needed relief to Bengaluru.

Fans in Bengaluru have already begun keeping tabs on the possibility of rain interfering with Saturday’s IPL match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Titans.
