'BOOM': Bengalureans puzzled over loud rattling noise in city

Bengaluru: A loud mysterious sound was heard in Bengaluru’s Whitefield area on Wednesday afternoon around 1.30 pm.

As per sources, some residents said they heard a loud boom, and a thunderous noise, while others felt their homes shaking and windows rattling for as long as five-second which made them think that it was an earthquake.

The sound was heard as far as Cooke Town, Vivek Nagar, Ramamurthy Nagar, Hosur Road, HAL, Old Madras Road, Ulsoor, Kundanahalli, Kammanahalli, CV Raman Nagar, Whitefield and HSR Layout in Bengaluru.

Bengaluru Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao informed that they are investigating the matter and are looking into the cause of the sound. He also informed that so far no damage was reported anywhere in the city and no calls have been made to 100.

As there is speculation that the sound could be a ‘sonic boom’ from a fighter jet flying over the city, the police have also asked Air Force Control Room to check if this was a flight is waiting for the Air Force to confirm.

Meanwhile, Srinivas Reddy, director, Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), confirmed that no earthquake hit the city today.

“Earthquake activity will not be restricted to one area and will be widespread. We have checked our sensors and there is no earthquake activity recorded today,” Reddy was quoted speaking to Bangalore Mirror.
