Udupi: Old demonetized currency notes have been found by the Kollur Mookambika Temple authorities while counting the notes from the temple hundi after Navaratri festivities. The temple authorities had decided to document the process and have found demonetised currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 along with the new currency notes, coins, dollars, gold and silver items.

It’s been two years since demonetisation and yet Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes fill the hundi boxes of temples regularly. Hence the authorities have started counting the demonetized currency notes separately.

The temple management committee is worried over the disposal of demonetized notes and also how to change the mentality of the devotees who offer demonetized notes to the hundi.

The government should initiate measures to exchange the demonetized currency notes received at the temple hundi, said H Halappa, Temple executive officer.
