B'luru: How an eight-member group is helping poor amid state lockdown

Bengaluru: As the city is witnessing a health crisis due to COVID-19 outbreak,  thousands of migrant workers and poor are starving due to this lockdown, In an attempt to help poor people of the region, an 8-member group named 'Neravu' is distributing essential food items to people of different areas of the city from the past 15 days. Speaking about the initiative with Udayavani.com, one of the members of Neravu, Shivakumar said, "From past 15 days, we have been providing food to migrants and poor people on the streets of Katriguppe, Srinivasanagara, Majestic, Sunkadakatte and NR Colony, two times a day." "There are around 200 people staying in huts in Chikkalasandra and we provide them with food in the evening every day," he said. "We are self-funded for the initiative and we order food from a local vendor. Variety of food items like, Bisi Bele Bath, Pulav and Rice Baths are prepared and distributed," he added. Currently, they are helping 500 people every day from hunger and starvation and are also spreading the message of maintaining social distancing among people.
