Speaking at a meeting with auto-rickshaw drivers and owners on Thursday, he explained that the order was issued within the legal framework, following the Central Government’s guidelines and High Court directions. Those opposing the order can file an appeal in court, he added.
The Central Government has allowed free movement of electric rickshaws nationwide, including both urban (Zone 1) and rural (Zone 2) areas. Hence, the same provision was made for Mangaluru. Other cities in Karnataka, including Bengaluru, also have similar permissions.
However, restrictions have been imposed in Tamil Nadu, and any such restrictions in Dakshina Kannada would need to be implemented at the state government level. DC also mentioned that auto-rickshaw drivers from Chikkamagaluru have requested similar restrictions as seen in Tamil Nadu.
