Due to the large number of small and huge industries at Baikampady and because of the New Mangalore Port Trust. a large number of lorries and tankers ply in the region. Since there is an increase in the volume of goods traffic, there is a need for a truck terminal. Without the facility of a truck terminal, the trucks would be parking beside the road and thereby adversely affecting vehicular movement, explained the minister.
“The issue has already been brought to the notice of the state government. A proposal on the setting up of the truck terminal at Baikampady had reached advanced stages during the previous government’s tenure,” he added.
The land for the truck terminal has been identified and the file is pending approval from the Finance Department posts which, the work will be initiated, he said.

“The state government has proposed to provide low-cost housing facilities for the labourers working in industrial areas near to their industries. All efforts would be made to promote small and mega industries in the district. A high-level meeting will be convened to discuss the same, at the deputy commissioner’s office shortly,” informed the minister.
