The couple – Satish and Meera who hail from Kundapur were on a cruise tour to Spain in May, when Meera died of a cardiac arrest on May 24 near Barcelona.

Since a lengthy procedure was involved in the repatriation of the body to India, and eight days passed in submitting needed documents, an aggrieved Satish reached out to Kalakshetra Kundapur Chief Kishore Kumar for help. Kumar, in turn, informed Jayaprakash Hegde who sought assistance from former external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj.

Following Sushma Swaraj’s intervention and continuous follow-up with the authorities thereafter, the mortal remains of Meera were handed over to the family on June 2. Subsequently, the body was flown to Mumbai where the last rites were performed.
